Stages of Formation in the DDL

Aspirancy

The Congregation accepts into an associate relationship, as aspirants, young women who are giving serious consideration to dedicating themselves to God in the religious life.

The purpose of the aspirancy is to allow women to complete their basic intellectual training in circumstances that assure solid understanding of Christian faith and Christian living, and that allow them to make informed decision for or against embracing the religious life.

The aspirancy programme provides a firm grounding in Christian doctrine, in some elementary training in prayer, and an experience of community living, it is directed as to lay women. It accordingly permits the aspirant the freedom of movement and decision appropriate to young women of their age.

Postulancy or Pre-Novitiate

Candidates who so wish, and who are regarded as suitable, may be admitted to pre-novitiate course. The purpose of pre-novitiate course is to provide a gradual spiritual and psychological adjustment of the candidate in developing the human and emotional maturity needed for a truly free and responsible decision to enter into novitiate; and to give both the candidate and the congregation an opportunity to appraise her aptitude for membership. The candidate will be under the direction of a mature sister appointed by the Superior General.

"For effective formation of candidates, the Age Limit of 25 years for candidates with O'Level and 30 years of age for Degree holders is maintained."

Novitiate:

After the postulancy, the candidates are admitted to the Novitiate. The candidates should be healthy, give evidence of aptitude, maturity and a generous desire to the life of the evangelical counsels.

At the end of the Novitiate, the Superior General, with the consent of her council, admits novices who request it, to temporal profession of vows.

Temporary Profession:

Vows of Poverty, Chastity and Obedience are made for a period of one year and may be renewed two times for one year and for further three years. During this period, the tempoary professd Daughter will live in community and continue to discern God's call in her life.

For valid admission to temporary profession in the Daughters of Divine Love Congregation, novices must have reached 20years.

Final Profession:

After a period of six years in temporary vows and following a period of preparation and prayerful discernment, a sister can apply to make her final vows to the Daughters of Divine Love Congregation.

On-going formation:

Throughout their lives, Daughters shall labour earnestly to perfect their spiritual and doctrinal, as well as their professional development. Periodic lectures, seminars, and study weeks directed toward renewal of spirit shall be provided.

Formation

Formation in the Congregation of the Daughters of Divine Love is the conscious assistance and guidance given to the candidate by the Congregation. It is an ongoing process which is the work of the Holy Spirit and the individual candidate. The primary objective of the formation process is to enable the candidates and members in the total giving of self to God, in the living out of the Charism and Spirituality of the Congregation which is totally embedded in the Spirituality and life of Christ, our model.

These are the stages of Formation in our Congregation:

ASPIRANCY

Is the period of serious consideration of dedicating oneself to God in the religious life. The Candidate is brought in touch with the solid understanding of Christian faith and Christian living, which will allow her to make an informed decision for or against embracing the religious life.

PRE-NOVITIATE (POSTULANCY)

The Congregation and the candidate try to discern her vocation. The Candidate is guided towards developing the human, emotional, spiritual and psychological maturity needed for a truly free and responsible decision to enter the novitiate. The candidate and the Congregation appraises her aptitude for membership.

“For effective formation of candidates, the age limit of 25 years for candidates with O’Level and 30 years of age for degree holders is maintained.”

NOVITIATE

Religious life begins in this stage. The candidate is initiates into the basic meaning and conception of religious life, as well as the Charism and Spirituality of the Congregation. At the end of the Novitiate, the Novice is admitted to temporal profession of Vows (Chastity, Poverty and Obedience).
The period of novitiate last for 2 years

SCHOLASTICATE

Scholasticate is the full period of temporal profession. The Daughter interiorizes what she imbibed in the Novitiate and the subsequent Workshops, Seminar and Courses offered. Scholasticate is followed up with perpetual profession of the three evangelical counsel.
This period last for six years.

ONGOING FORMATION

This stage begins after final profession. The Daughter labours unremittingly to develop and grow in the perfection of her spiritual life – life of love, through continuous quest and search of God in periodic lectures, seminars and study weeks directed towards renewal of spirit.
